Arrive in the enchanting city of Luang Prabang, the historic, religious
and artistic capital of Laos, with its misty mountains, golden spires,
Buddhist pagoda festival and a wealth of textile shop houses. Visit
dreamlike temples and hike up Phousi Hill for magnificent sunset views.
Exchange travel tales in a French style café, enjoy the serenity at the
ancient meditation caves of Pak Ou and admire the exquisite temples with
intricate tile work before shopping at Vientiane's bustling market.
Arrive in the graceful old city of Hanoi and marvel at the splendid
collection of colonial architecture. Wander the winding streets of the old
craft quarter and reflect at the tranquil Tay and Thay Pagodas before
cruising Ha Long Bay, studded with thousands of dramatic limestone islands
and caves. Explore the palace complex in Hue and sail on the Perfume River
to see Thien Mu Pagoda. Sample Hue's royal cuisine in a private home garden
and amble along Hoi An's quaint streets lit with colorful lanterns. During
the 17th Century Hoi An was an important art and trade center and its
architectural gems incorporate Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese and French
influences. Dine and shop at Saigon's (Ho Chi Minh) trendy hot spots and
visit the eerie Cu Chi Tunnels that so tormented U.S. Forces during the
America-Vietnam War. Cruise past floating villages and markets in the
Mekong Delta and savor mouth-watering French-Vietnamese cuisine in a
lovely old French garden villa.
Finally arrive in the lost city of Angkor, the seat of the Khmer Empire
that once ruled nearly all of Southeast Asia. Explore these magnificent
temple ruins by foot, elephant and hot air balloon and be astounded by
some of the most inspired monuments ever conceived by man!
